We have developed a few time-tested cookie traditions in our house for the Christmas season, but there is one I keep meaning to do.
Living in a small mountain community looks different every year. Some years we have feet of snow before Christmas, which makes outside decorating nearly impossible. Then there are years, like the one we are in, where it has been drier than normal. The drier years should include more outside lights and decorations. This is where our new tradition comes in.
I love Christmas lights and I feel like those of you who decorate outside should be thanked in some way. Especially if it would appear everyone else on the block has received coal already for Christmas. It takes a lot of work, money, and time to decorate outside for people to enjoy and I want to recognize that.
This year I am starting a new tradition.
Instead of baking cookies for just neighbors and friends I am extending our reach. This year we are baking cookies and delivering them to the houses that have gone above and beyond in their decorating. Hopefully, they will feel appreciated and will renew their efforts next year.
The cookie recipe that we will be giving just happens to be a blue ribbon winner in our local Frog Jump fair many years back. I have attached our recipe to this post, which might encourage you to make some extra cookies this year and bless the ones who have lite up the night.
