I am calling this the loose guidelines of 2nd semester because I have to be perfectly honest with myself when committing to a schedule. Is this doable? Am I leaving room for “life”? Will this become a law? Guidelines to me suggests wiggle room and reminds me of the “Pirate Code” in Pirates of the Caribbean, which was also loosely followed.
This semester I am going to attempt bringing more activity into our schedule. When I realize how much I am sitting teaching I have to notice that they are sitting right there with me. Therefore we will be doing PE 4 days a week, with more full body CC review games.
In my attempt to find the “carrot” that beckons my children to pursue excellence I will be incorporating 5 minute Mindcraft play reward cards. With each correct answer during our CC review game they will earn time to play Mindcraft. I am not sure how J will react to the competitive nature of this game, but I know they will each earn some time which will hopefully make the day go easier.
Because the kids and I have left our weekly bible study to stay home more often I will be incorporating the series Who is God? by Apologia. I have the book downloaded on Audible which we will listen to to start our day with questions that can be asked throughout our day. Perhaps engaging in Devotion throughout our day with thought provoking questions will help keep Peace.
Our day might look something like this:
- 8:30am Devotional
- 9am J works on the computer while L is doing copy work
- 9:30am they switch places
I am currently working on T25 by Beachbody and the best time for me to workout is at 9am. Therefore I have 25 minutes of a great workout + shower all while the kids are busy working.
- 10am PE I will be using the fitness homeschooling schedule so it will be completely structured time
- 10:30am Snack with free play
- 11:00am CC review games
- 11:30am Winner will play Mindcraft for their winning minutes while the other does Math with mom
- noon switch
- 12:30pm Lunch with free play
- 1pm J will be on the computer while L is doing L.A./Spelling
- 1:30pm L will go lie down for a rest while J finishes L.A./Spelling with Mom
- 2ish we will be done with the 4R’s and can move on to anything extra or J can play outside while L keeps resting.
I know it looks painful to have every 30 minute taken up, but kids can really only work on one thing for 15 to 30 minutes and lets be real, neither can I. 🙂
On paper this looks great and what could go wrong? I could wake up super tired and cranky, PMS can cause this to go up in flames, Fireman could come home and disrupt the schedule, Fireman can leave and disrupt the schedule, J could decide he is in a crappy mood which would put the whole house on edge, seriously a million little things could happen that would forfeit this plan, but God is bigger then this plan!
I may make a few days of this on my own but in the end if I don’t start my day with Jesus and pursue His plan for my day everything that “I” will want will come crashing down. I didn’t write it on the schedule but my day will start earlier with some much needed quiet time before the Lord.
