After 10 years, this season, I have made a decision to leave Classical Conversations in order to pursue my community.
From the beginning I knew I didn’t want to homeschool alone. Being with like-minded people along this journey was what my children and I needed. There was nothing available to us in our area so my husband and I began our homeschool community.
Soon enough we had families who wanted to pursue a Classical Education with us, and we grew.
We grew, and shrunk, grew, and shrunk. Along the way rules began to change from Classical Conversations corporate that seemed to suck the life out of our community. It didn’t matter how many times I cast the vision or tried planting seeds to grow Directors, nothing grew. I couldn’t water a crop with rhetoric I didn’t believe in so the decision came to choose Classical Conversations or community.
My community is full of amazing families. Young families, families with older kids, those who dreamed of homeschooling and those of us who fell into this life. We are a beautiful mix of Gods family. The parents in my community want to help, lead, and grow. They want the freedom to raise each of their kids however God is leading while being a leader in their own community because that’s their gifting.
Classical Conversations has been a blessing beyond what I could have asked for. The friendships I have made, the lessons I have learned, and the skills that I leave with are irreplaceable. Their programs gave me community, but their leadership was going to kill it.
Therefore I am taking the best parts of what I have learned from Classical Conversations and focusing on my community. I am choosing to stay with a group that is close to home, loves the Lord, wants to homeschool in the Classical tradition, and where there are plenty of leaders.
Schole Groups from Classical Academic Press is our new umbrella. With plenty of equipping and mentoring to keep us busy.
With so many changes happening in 2020 this one I am pretty excited about.
