In the workout program, Insanity, the instructor has a saying “just focus and go!” He uses it when he must know you are at your breaking point and if there is no encouragement you will stop.
I was thinking about that tonight as the dishes stared me straight in the face. Another night, another dirty kitchen and yes I am doing it alone. Every ounce of me wanted to turn the light off head to the computer and pretend my kitchen was clean. But I knew bed time would come and I would wake up to an ugly mess which wouldn’t get my Monday off to a very good start. So I said to myself “just focus and go!” I knew in my head having a clean kitchen would be worth all the time it would take to clean it.
Much like my workouts, right when I am ready to stop I get my second wind. I didn’t just clean my kitchen tonight I cleaned my room, the kids bathroom, the living room, and continued the laundry. (But before you call me “super mom” it is important that you know that my house never gets messy enough for guests to wish they never came over.:)
I ran a half marathon awhile back and I remember the feeling around mile 10 that this was the most ridiculous thing I have ever done. I tried telepathically calling to my husband to come rescue me, but he never came. There was no way out of that race but to finish what I had started, and when I was done no one could take that feeling away from me. I was so tired and shaky but I had finished what seemed to be impossible and I was smiling.
I have to remember those races, workouts, and sayings when I am in the middle of a 3 day shift with no rescue in site, but that sweet blood of mercy that covers me.
Are there things you do that keep you moving, sayings, songs, scripture? If so I would love to hear them.
