My Plexus Journey Continues..

I am blown away by the small but mighty changes Plexus has done to my body. There was a time not that long ago that I would go on vacation and just know that my body was going into hibernation mode. My digestive track was asleep and unfortunately I became ok with waiting days and days to use the bathroom. Now I know that is TMI but I also know I'm not alone. Many of you reading this right now have not had a decent trip to the bathroom in days or sometimes weeks. How does that make you feel?...

A Mom and a Fireman.

Here is a post from the past but still fun and very applicable. :) As many of you know I am a fireman's wife. Being a fireman's wife is a unique position, and although lonely at times, when he is home he is all mine. There is no work taking up the kitchen table and when something breaks he's right there to fix it. He understands more then most what being a mom looks like because I'm not so sure life at the firehouse is much different then life at home. Here is a small list of how a mom...

There is a new community online!

Do you blog? Do you Scope? Are you an entrepreneur? Do you homeschool? If you answered yes to any one of those questions then this new community is just for you. It's appropriately called "Social Homeschool Mamas" because we homeschool and use social media. We are not afraid of the internet or sharing our lives (respectively) online. We have discovered that the online community has allowed us friendships we might never have had otherwise, and engage in discussions that stretch us as mothers, wives, business owners and Christians. You, fellow homeschooler, are my people and I've cast my net wide...

You can find me now on Periscope.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like sitting at the "adult" table? When you finally arrived at the "adult" table did you feel like you had nothing to add to the conversation? Well I've been on Periscope sense June 2015 and I've watched bloggers I have been following for years, mom planners, fitness mommy's, and all the while feeling the tug to get in front of the camera. This past week I have flipped the screen and joined the "adult" table. You can find me on Periscope @rebeccaverkerk. I know my first few scopes have been rough and...

Health update.

Did you know that acne and tummy trouble go hand in hand? I did not! Not until I googled "itchy skin and stomach issues" and what came up surprised me. Therefore I am fully committed to "The Whole 30" program for the next 30 days. The symptoms I have I cannot confirm nor deny they are not directly related to what I'm eating, so over the next 30 days I will be documenting and cleaning out my system. Thankfully the food looks amazing, and who doesn't love steak, sweat potatoes and bacon? I don't know anyone either especially not my...

Birthday Celebration!

Fireman had a birthday last week and the kids and I surprised him with cake, cards, and Legos. My son made this very unique cake topper for Fireman. [caption id="attachment_2188" align="aligncenter" width="368"] Fireman's Birthday[/caption] Fireman really doesn't like his birthday celebrated but as the kids are getting older too they want to celebrate anyway, and so do I. There had to be a bit of Hello Kitty thrown in the mix, because that was the last birthday we celebrated. See how excited they are and it's not even their birthday. My reason to celebrate anything is, cake! :) Chocolate and...

The annual Blog Party #UBP14

I am fashionably late to this party! This is my 4th year participating with the Ultimate Blog Party, and each year I read new blogs that often end up in my RSS feed on "Pulse." I started The Sierra Home Companion in the fall of 2008. I had just ran and broke my hip in the Nike Women's 1/2 Marathon in San Francisco and with nothing but time on my hands I began this blog. Over the years I have tried new themes and looks for the blog but my content has always remained the same. I write about my...

Joy in Red

#1000Gifts for February 1, 2014 3 Gifts that are red I love this wine glass I received from my Sister-in-Law this past Christmas, and I love it more when it's filled with Red wine. This picture is a three in one. The couch was given to me by my best girl friend, Meghan, the Red strips on our American Flag, and the red heart that reminds me Love dwells here. I love this face! I am grateful for his red cheeks .

What I am reading in 2014.

“Classic' - a book which people praise and don't read.” ― Mark Twain “Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint.” ― Mark Twain I thought it might be fun this year to join a few book clubs. I know what many of you are thinking right now, "when does she have time for that!" Great question! I'm not sure I do have the time but I am hoping these clubs would motivate me to read and participate in a discussion. The first is The Jane Austin book club. All 6 books in 1 year, and...
